Descriptive Mode

Descriptive writing is writing that creates a vivid picture in the mind of the reader. This is accomplished by using just the right words. Words that can make the reader see what it is you are writing about.

This is the first mode for my 5 week writing project. Today’s post is the rough draft and I will post the final copy next Wednesday.

I reach in and touch his small hand, so soft and yet there is an inner strength that is building within that hand. Each finger wrapping around mine and our eyes meet for the first time. The world around us us hushes and its’s as if we are the only two in this place.

Then just as quick the moment fades and the incessant clicking, beeping and whirring of machines steals back in to shatter the peace. Fighting back the tears I kiss his little hand and tuck it back under the blanket, making sure not to dislodge the IV tubes.

I sit by his crib for hours just watching him breath and wondering if the twitching is in reaction to a dream or something else. His nurse comes by every thirty minutes to check on him and write down things on his chart that is attached to the end of his crib.

This is just day one and I wonder how many days it’ll be before I can hold him, snuggle him  close and let him know just how much I already love him.

So that’s it for the first go around of the descriptive mode. I hope you enjoyed it. 🙂

Have a great weekend.
